RadioIndy is pleased to present Errol and Kaye Leslie with a GrIndie Award for the CD "New Life" "New Life" is the third gospel reggae release from impressive writer/composer duo Errol and Kaye Leslie. Originally from Jamaica, but currently taking up residence in Florida, Errol and Kaye smoothly incorporate Caribbean reggae rhythms into their gospel songs for their music ministries. The result is twelve upbeat and rhythmic tracks about the importance of Jesus in our day to day existence and the necessity of putting one's life into God's hands. Errol and Kaye, combined with the backing vocalists, create some great vocal dynamics on this album. Errol has a great booming bass reggae vocal, and Kaye a strong alto more lenient to the gospel end of the sound. "New Life" features great production quality. It sounds very clean and makes you feel as though you are in a Caribbean tent revival. "Caribbean Gospel Medley" defines Caribbean gospel perfectly with an attention-getting beat, great vocal layering, and lyrics about redemption. The title track, "New Life," is an Elvis-esque southern gospel track with great booming doo-wop vocals from Errol, more great vocal layering, and a classic arrangement. Overall, "New Life" is an accomplishment, as it combines the fun, upbeat sounds of the Caribbean with serious and heartfelt gospel lyrics. If the fusion of reggae with gospel appeals to you, I strongly recommend that you check out Errol and Kaye Leslie.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Lee Michaels with a GrIndie Award for the CD "My Life" Pianist Lee Michaels has recently released his debut CD "My Life" which blends the soul of Motown with a touch of classic rock. Hailing from New Jersey you would expect to hear something in the manner of rockers Bruce Springsteen or Bon Jovi. However, Michaels serenades the listener with songs like "The Rain Will See Us Through" which is extremely influenced by the early sounds of Elton John. Michaels belts out some R&B with the song "Believe" with a nice balance between the electric piano and vocals. His vocals attain a quality reminiscent of the soul legend The Miracles while keeping his Barry Manilow piano ballads high in the mix. If you dig Sir Elton, you will dig "My Life" as it is a treasure of pop music embedded with artistic piano arrangements.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Various Artists with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Bluff Rock Entertainment Presents: "The Black House"" Bluff Rock Entertainment Presents: "The Black House" is a CD by various artists hosted by the progressive hip-hop label. The male and female musicians who have compiled this album voice their inspirations of hip-hop with clever lyrical rhymes, tantalizing beats, and tight rhythms. Patriotic Poetry, as heard on "The Value of an American Dollar" speaks of emotional times in America and is also a spoken solo vocal track with no instrumentation. The rhythmic vocals with backing beats are fresh and original and display inventive lyrics. Progressive synths and drum machines really build up the genre, creating an upbeat tempo with a variety of instruments. In a creative production venture. the incorporation of the using the music from the band Cutting Crew and their song (I Just) "Died In your Arms Tonight" as an intro to "So Additive" is innovative as the beat of this song keeps going as a lyrical Rap is heard above the looped strings which are predominant to this song. RadioIndy is pleased to present Rosalina Vega with a GrIndie Award for the CD "He Is Here" "He Is Here" is a great praise & worship album from Panamanian gospel vocalist and songwriter Rosalina Vega. Vega delivers with an inspiring and heartfelt vocal performance and a great range that breeches the operatic, similar to the vocals of Dionne Warwick. On the majority of the tracks, Vega's vocal is solely accompanied by traditional, though skillful, piano arrangements crafted by pianist Michael Andrews. These simple arrangements bring the message of her words to the forefront which is, simply, praising God through song. "He Is Here" has four Vega originals and six traditional hymns and worship songs, and she sings each song beautifully, with immense inspiration and an open heart. The album is well recorded and creates a nice balance between the vocals, piano, and gospel message. "I Give My Heart" is a Vega original with nice piano work and inspiring, heartfelt lyrics about giving it all to Jesus. "Forever More" is a spiritual track with a soothing arrangement and hopeful lyrics about the afterlife. Her variations on traditional songs, including her operatic, multilingual rendition of "O Glorious Love" and her beautiful rendition of the standard hymn, "I Surrender All," are also noteworthy. "He Is Here" is a great album with an inspiring message, and should be looked into by anyone who enjoys praise & worship music and great female vocalists.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Freedom Hawk with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Sunlight" "Sunlight" is the excellent full-length debut from Virginia hard rock outfit Freedom Hawk. This group is solid. Driven by powerful drum beats and excellently crafted guitar work, Freedom Hawk have composed nine exceptional hard rock tracks that dabble in metal and psychedelic and have a certain timeless quality to them. Attributing to this timelessness is the lead singer's vocal performance. His melodic high-pitched vocals are reminiscent of Ozzy Osbourne with traces of Robert Plant. The songs are a lot of fun, meant to be played loud, and will immediately have you either bobbing your head or using your lap as a drum kit. "Sunlight" is well-produced, clean and ready to boom out of a pair of speakers. The title track, "Sunlight," is a fun track with a great rocking arrangement that gets your head bobbing and features some great drum and guitar work. "Going Down" is a stripped down track with a slow drum beat and minimal guitar work that displays the fantastic vocal capabilities of the lead singer. "Sunlight" takes us back to a time where making hard rock wasn't about making a lot of noise but rather about making very good music. Freedom Hawk have crafted a gem, and fans of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and classic hard rock are going to want to pick this one up.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Errol and Kaye Leslie with a GrIndie Award for the CD "I've Got Joy" Jamaica natives Errol and Kaye Leslie are at it again with their outstanding gospel reggae anthems on "I've Got Joy." Combining the southern gospel tradition with upbeat Caribbean rhythms and island beats, Errol and Kaye sing about the importance of Jesus in the world today in a very unique and uplifting way. The energizing arrangements and excellent vocal dynamics, with Errol's booming bass and Kaye's more gospel-oriented alto, take the serious lyrics and somehow turn them into songs that you want to put on a Hawaiian shirt and dance to. Go ahead and try lifting your hand to the sky and sadly wavering back and forth; it's impossible. "I've Got Joy" is well-recorded and the arrangements and vocals alike sound clean and professional. The title track, "I've Got Joy," is a song about the grace and love of Jesus and the joy that it brings and features Errol and Kaye's great vocal dynamics, rhyming lyrics, and a rhythmic horn, drum, and guitar arrangement. "Holy, Holy, Holy" appears to combine a more Caribbean version of Ace of Base's "I Saw the Sign" with the traditional hymn with a vocal performance led by Errol's booming voice. RadioIndy is pleased to present Tom Principato with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Raising the Roof!" "Raising the Roof!" is an excellent, guitar-driven blues rock album with elements of funk, r&b, and New Orleans blues/jazz stylings from Tom Principato Band. Principato has been playing guitar for over forty years, and he shows his mastery of the instrument with unbelievable guitar work on every track. A few of the songs are instrumental, allowing Principato and his guitar to take center stage in bluesy jams accompanied by Hammond organ, great bass lines, drums, and occasional horns. Principato's vocals are reminiscent of the blues rock gods before him, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn, and his overall musicianship is just as incredible. His songwriting skills are also admirable, as he can write fun lyrics about creole queens and other New Orleans themes, or blues-oriented songs about lost love and lies. "Raising the Roof!" is well-recorded and has a clean and professional sound. "Lock and Key" introduces the album nicely with a New Orleans style track with great guitar work and horns. "Bo Bo's Groove" is a fun jam track with a great funk bass line, excellent guitar solos, and an overall grooving arrangement. Tom Principato and his backing band have delivered with astonishing guitar work, great blues jams, and a nice meshing of lyrics. Fans of blues rock, whether you've been listening to Principato for forty years or you just heard of him today, "Raising the Roof!" will not disappoint.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Parallel with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Superhero Madness" "Superhero Madness" is the fourth release from Southern alternative rock outfit Parallel. This album screams mid-nineties, bringing back the heyday of the alternative rock movement with music and vocals that remind the listener of an array of their likely influences – Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20, 3 Doors Down, Stroke 9, Nine Days, and Nickelback. "Superhero Madness" is lyrically diverse and filled with emotionally charged piano ballads, Southern anthems, catchy choruses and the distinct feeling that something is missing in the world. Parallel worked with seasoned, professionals producers John Kurzweg and David Cox to record the album, so it has a polished sound and is ready for the mainstream. "If You Believe" is a soulful piano ballad with a nice melody, a catchy chorus and introduces an instrument less frequently used among '90s alternative artists. RadioIndy is pleased to present BiGGs with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Pound-4-Pound" "Pound-4-Pound" is a three-track southern gangsta single featuring the original, instrumental, and a capella versions of BiGGs' "Look Good." BiGGs' has the vocal ability to intimidate as well as to bring the ladies to their knees. He has a great singing voice as well as a great flow reminiscent of the Notorious B.I.G. and Lil Wayne. The backing music sequence supports this intimidation/coercion dichotomy, as you get a thick, bumping beat with subtle and varied accents and quirky yet atmospheric synths. The second track, the instrumental version of "Look Good," gives you a whole different perspective on the track and allows you to focus on the dramatic hints. The a capella version stands on its own as well; you definitely feel the rhythm without hearing it, and it paints a complete picture of BiGGs' talents as an emcee. This single is recorded excellently, so the track sounds great as a whole and broken down. "Pound-4-Pound" certainly leaves you wanting to hear more of what BiGGs has to offer the music world in both arrangement and vocals. If you enjoy the Miami style of hip-hop, you'll enjoy this CD.

Throughout the album, Gooden shows magnificent control of her voice and has an emotional inflection that heightens the personal sentiments in her writing. Her vocal performance is similar to contemporary female singer/songwriters like Paula Cole, Sarah McLachlan, and Bonnie Raitt. Gooden's lyrics are very personal and honest, and she sings them with such conviction and melody that the listener becomes hooked and must know what she'll sing about next. The musical arrangements are also quite good, highlighted by fantastic piano/organ progressions and beautiful acoustic guitar that skillfully back Gooden's vocal performance. The recording quality of "All My Days" is excellent, so the vocals and arrangements are clean and crisp, leaving nothing to be desired. The title track, "All My Days," is a slow, sad, and personal song with a piano and guitar accompaniment in which Gooden shows her tremendous vocal range. "Goodbye" is a more uptempo rock number about learning how to say goodbye to someone you don't necessarily want to ever say goodbye to. Overall, "All My Days" is a superb debut from a talented singer/songwriter that knows how to write her feelings down and vocalize them. This album is simultaneously energetic, aggressive, loud, and smooth, and it doesn't waste any time in giving you the urge to dance. RadioIndy is pleased to present Darin Seldes with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Nostalgia" "Nostalgia" is a rock album with elements of jazz, funk, zydeco, and reggae from the innovative Darin Seldes. On "Nostalgia" Seldes combines atypical rock instruments – Spanish guitar, organ, horns, mandolin, and piano – with typical instruments to create an original sound. His vocals are also quite unique, accentuated and raspy with an impressive range, comparable to Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini. The clarity and quality of the production of the album allows the outstanding individual instrumental work to cut through the recording clearly and precisely. The lyrics on "Nostalgia" are oftentimes catchy and playful, though the album as a whole recognizes the difficulties of living in this imperfect world. "Long Awaited Ditty" features a playful and catchy bridge, "This is the section of the song for those who like to sing along." "Crawfish and Boiled Shrimp" is similarly playful as Seldes sings about eating seafood and attending outdoor festivities. Lyrically, "Lonely Incorporated," as one might suspect, is not quite as playful, but the instrumental combination of piano, Spanish guitar, drums, and an electric solo is quite the jam. "Nostalgia" is a true original for fans of a jazzy, funky or reggae-infused rock sound. RadioIndy is pleased to present Joni Compretta with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Out of Mississippi" "Out of Mississippi" is a southern country album from female vocalist Joni Compretta. Joni has a strong, demanding voice similar to contemporary country artists like Martina McBride and Faith Hill that is capable of expressing loneliness and joy, hopefulness and helplessness. Most of the songs on "Out of Mississippi" are borrowed from other artists, many of whom are not from Mississippi, but they all tell a decent story and Joni's confident vocals make it seem like she wrote them herself. Her backing band is versatile and musically sound, drawing from the classic rock & roll sound as well as country, and incorporating the piano, mandolin, violin, and steel guitar into a number of songs. The album is well-recorded with no critical errors. "Before You Turn to a Memory" show's Compretta's backing band's musical talent with a sad violin intro, mandolin, steel guitar, and piano all complimenting her powerfully sad vocal. "I Love You," a track that originated on a Faith Hill album, has a nice alternation between smooth jazz saxophone and steel guitar during the melodic verse. With "Out of Mississippi," Joni Compretta has selected some of her favorite songs, borrowed them, and cut them herself in her own stylish way. Bottom line is this - this album will get you up off the couch and moving to its grooves. Our favorites include the title track, "Disco Cowboy," a classic Disco track that includes every disco element in the book. "Night in the County Jail" is a soulful, bluesy ball of fun with an alley-cat-kind-of flair. Furthermore, "Sugar Daddy Shakedown" features some fun lyrics and a guest female vocalist. If you like party music, country, and blues, this CD is for you!-William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team

RadioIndy is pleased to present Sal Belloise with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Nothing But Love" "Nothing But Love" by Sal Belloise is a blues driven acoustic rock album with a great live/raw quality to it. Sal's vocal performances are the big factor in achieving this sound as they are very clear and nicely produced. The instruments all have a great "Room" sound and the arrangements and lyrics are creative. Throw all of these factors together and you get an album that sounds like it was recorded in a coffee shop....but in a good way. The acoustic guitar work on the CD is impressive. Highlights include the title track "Nothing But Love," which has a catchy chorus, a standout bass line and some nice harmony in the vocals. "Wonderful Day" has some intricacy to it with tricky rhythms and changes, yet it is very listenable. Great blues riff too. "Wave of Life" has another awesome blues riff and more good vocal harmony. If you enjoy adult rock acoustic artists, give Sal a try.-William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
